Marianne was an IMBY intern in 2019 and now is a current Youth Artist-in-Residence at the park. Born in Beijing, China, she moved to Seattle in second grade and has lived in the Greater Seattle Area ever since.
Marianne has always had a love for nature, and especially for conserving the beautiful environment. After discovering a passion for environmental science and engineering, Marianne wants to pursue an environmental engineering degree and go into that field after attaining a Master’s degree. When she isn’t arduously studying or enjoying nature, Marianne loves to draw and paint in her free time, as well as lead her school Model UN club in heated debates at conferences on weekends. She is a spirited member of her high school swim team and a devoted volunteer at the Super Joey Foundation, a non-profit that supports families with youth cancer patients. During holidays, Marianne loves traveling around the world with her family or ski and snowboard down the tallest peaks in the Northwest. As a part of the IMBY program, Marianne looked forward to fostering a closer connection with nature and learn how the NPS affects the community of Seattle. She hoped that her experience with IMBY can give her a sense of direction as a future environmental engineer.
