Say Hello to Bailey!

DCIM101GOPROMy name is Bailey and I am a 25 year old attending the University of Washington for my Master’s in Teaching! I love working with kids, I currently coach skiing, climbing, and running for middle school aged students in Seattle! I am an avid outdoors woman. In the winters I enjoy back country skiing with friends, and in the summers, I rock climb all over the Pacific Northwest. I am so excited to work for In My Backyard Northwest because it is the perfect accumulation of my passions and talents. I can’t wait to see what the quarter brings, and to continue the good work of this amazing project!

Where are you from?
Lake Stevens, WA, born and raised. About 30 minutes north of Seattle!

What’s your favorite discussion topic?
I love discussing conservation issues. I was an Ecology and Conservation Biology major at UW, and I still love reading about biology current events.

What are your three biggest adventures?

  1. I once lived on my bicycle for three months in Europe, logged over 3000 miles, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
  2. I rock climbed in Yosemite NP for a week last summer.
  3. When I was 15 I went on a 10 day humanitarian trip to Guatemala, I’d love to go again.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Teaching Biology and leading outdoor trips with kids! I’d love to stay in Seattle and raise my own family here.

Do you have any past internship experiences?
Yes, I worked with the Urban Pollination Project last summer. It is an ecological project studying the urban bee populations in Seattle.

What’s your dream destination and why?
A big climbing and skiing trip to Alaska would be a dream!

What’s your favorite color?
Blue, all shades and hues.

What did you want to be growing up?
I wanted to be a chemist. I will still get to be one through teaching!

What is your favorite memory of your backyard?
We had a big, wooded backyard in Lake Stevens. Building forts with my brother all summer long are some of the sweetest memories I have.

What is your favorite thing about living in Washington?
I love the variety of activities you can enjoy in Washington. You can ski the mountains, hike the hills, surf the coast, float the rivers, run the trails, climb the rocks. The opportunities for fun are limitless!
